PATERSON, N.J. (TND) — A woman in New Jersey is facing several serious charges after her five-year-old granddaughter was stabbed.



Wednesday afternoon, Paterson police officers responded to a call and found the girl “who had sustained multiple stab wounds,” according to the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office.


Aurra Villacorta, 51, was arrested after a short investigation.


She's charged with aggravated assault-2nd degree, aggravated assault-3rd degree, unlawful possession of a weapon-4th degree, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose-3rd degree, and endangering the welfare of a child-2nd degree.


According to the prosecutor’s office, each of the five counts carries a possible sentence of more than a year in prison.


The girl's condition has not been released, nor where she was wounded, and authorities have not released a suspected motive
